I had some very interesting conversations this week that really got me thinking.

One was with a  South African developer who said to me, and I quote, that Australia is “the luckiest and safest country in the world”. She is currently trying to bring her sister over from South Africa, and is working hard to build her portfolio and set up a business in order to make this a possibility.

The second conversation was with a clients brother his wife and two kids live in Paris. He explained to me that over there the streets are not safe at all, they can’t even let their kids out to play- they drop them off to school and pick they up.

He said that it feels like they are virtually prisoners in their own home with building concerns about the threats in the form extremists on the streets, the risk of assault in general, along with more large scale terrorism threats.

This really got me reflecting on how many people I talk to in a week or month that are doing everything they can to just feel that they and their families are safe. No wonder we are considered the lucky country and so many people want to move here.

In my opinion, in terms of property investment, this is one of the reasons  why overseas buyers will continue to purchase. They don’t think in 2 and 5 year cycles- they think about families, education and future generations, 50-100 years ahead, and making secure and stable investments.

Maybe we should start taking notice of this, and apply it ourselves. Stop taking for granted what we have today, and put in place measures that will ensure our children and grandchildren are taken care of.

Anyway, just a little reflection I wanted to share with you all this week.

Thanks for hearing me out.
